ONE of these days I'll get there, but not now, unfortunately. It's all I can do to get to SPAH this year. I've always wanted to come to your party, especially when so many people I know and care about show up and have a great time.

Hope it goes off without a hitch (as usual), and is a big success. I know you KILL yourself putting it all together with the work you do outside (and have created a miracle there on your own property). You should post some photos of past years--just to show everyone what a wonder it is.

Kudos to you and Linnette.

The party officially starts on Fridays but most of the time, people will start showing up a few days early.
Here's a little video clip of Wally and me on one of the nights before ....

Think i said this last year Danny, but will say it again, of all the events in the harmonica calendar your hootenanny is the one i would most like to attend, but the distance is great and the year so far has been a scunner , both have landed in hospital and tests are on going, ( can't even have a proper drink ), but stranger things have happened so just in case Danny , what would be the nearest international airport ? Or any airport, it may help others who live in Europe and have the impulse or maybe include it in a holiday visit to the States.
Wishing you both all the best.
                                                                                              jh.

Having you and Audrey visit would be a real treat.

Cleveland Hopkins Airport is the closest international airport (a little over an hours drive)  and Akron Canton (about a 30 minute drive) is the closest regional airport.

Wow.... You seem to expect Lots of people !!!

By the way, howcome Ohio people have such a good driving manner?   I was on my dreamed "5000 miles driving trip" from Los Angeles to Philadelphia last month.  On the 2 lanes interstate road, every Ohio driver kept driving only on the right lane, within 8 miles over the speed limit and desirable distance between cars  The left lane was totally empty and the traffic was moving very smoothly.   The phenomena looked spectacular to me.  I saw a roadside sign "use left lane only to pass".... We all know about this rule but anywhere else, often drivers stay in the left lane and block the road...

I wonder if police will give a ticket to drivers who stay in the left lane in Ohio?  Just curious  ;) ;) :D.      Anyway, I see you, Danny and AJ, the Ohioan at the party  :D :D :D

Hello, Forum Family!!  I just wanted to drop a line or two or three about the wonderful time that I had at Danny G and his lovely wife's Harmonica Party.  It was wonderful!!!  I drove up.......left Baltimore at 5:45 AM.....had an incredible vista all the way up through the mountains until I arrived 'bout 10:40AM, that Saturday.  As I pulled up on their property I was first greeted by Linette's million and a half dollar smile!!!  That alone made it worth the trip.  As I mingled, it was good to see some "ole" friendly faces and I met quite a few new ones as well.  Seeing Danny once more was like a breathe of fresh air!  I got a special treat that I treated myself to; and that was one of those East Top  'black & gold" 16's. I'm no harmonica expert; but I was very pleased with it!  So pleased with it, that I instantly got rid of my "stage fright".  I tried to build up a working relationship as fast as I could with my new acquisition, that I played well into the afternoon and into the night with it.   Aaaaah......my only handicap was......when songs that were being played that I wasn't familiar with.  But I must say that Ingo is a sight to behold!!!   Man how he can rapidly run notes together and can create quick little phrases EFFORTLESSLY keeps me sitting on the edge of my seat for what few times I sat down.  .....and if that wasn't incredible enough....then Sir "AJ" and Ingo on stage easily let me know...that I need a lot MORE practicing!!!!   But you know....it wasn't intimidating....it was actually much fun and very encouraging! .....AND THAT'S WHAT I WAS THERE FOR!!!!  The food was good...Danny's property was wonderful...very pretty!   It is very fulfilling  and family oriented!  Everyone makes ya feel like you're glad that you came..........and at night, they had 2 big fires join' on; and the diatonic players gathered around the one fire accompanied by a saxophone player and David Payne's singing & guitar playing.  Hey it was great.....I enjoyed it!!  Yes Sir!.

AND it was really great to see our favorite "musical mailman" again. ;D  Paul is just flat out, one of the coolest people on earth!

I think at one time, there were four of us up there playing those new black Easttop 16 holers at the same time. That's really a nice axe (and everyone should get one before the company gets smart and starts charging what their actually worth ::)) I spoze that's what you get when you're standing on ground zero of "Easttop Harmonicas USA" ;D  Of course its a shameless plug  ;D

Also, it was good to see all the other "Meisters" that showed up there as well. (and except for Budishka and her buddy Atsuko pictured below, I won't mention their names cuz I don't wanna get yelled at if I leave someone out ;D

This just may have been my favorite Danny G parties so far. You folks who didn't show up, just remember that next year, and get yer butts over there. ;)

The party kinda nailed down which Chromatic belt pouch is most popular. Now I gotta go my Amish harness maker dude.

Buying a harmonica at my party is pretty similar to a TV drug deal, come around the corner and when nobody is looking I'll get one for you. With the exception of Paul who bought one at the party, everyone else brought theirs with them.

yeah, I loved Paul's review and AJ's review of Paul.:) we got to meet and play together a wee bit in December in Maryland...certainly not long enough, but enough to know he can play and we have similar tastes in music.

I can't believe you bought an Easttop too, Paul, after your special retirement (suzuki) gift from your wife! Now I bet you're not showing her this new one or she'll kill ya' lol.  ;) (I've already begun to prepare hubby for my own new acquisition, hahaha..have to build up to it slowly).

The party sounds great...one of these years we will make it there, but the timing (right before Spah with a couple of sidetrips taking us away from the fur-babies for a good two weeks) is a bit tough right now.

I'm sure Dan and Linette are wiped out exhausted after all the work they put in, so kudos on another successful harmonica party. It sounds fabulous.

Love the photo of Atsuko and Barbara too, they're both adorable and I've missed my friend Atsuko since our last GSHC hanging out.

Aaaaah my beloved Sister Scottie.......ha ha ha...believe me; I had to "rob Peter to pay Paul" ....and NO CHERYL HASN'T SEEN IT!  I also realise that those harmonicas are NOT going to stay at those prices very long.   I am saving up my pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters right now as we speak (or as I type) for that "Brass 16".  If I never buyz another one.....I's just gots ta git it!!!

Hi Folks all...

Back from our annual  trip to what to me is a little bit of heaven. So nice to catch up with brothers  whom I really consider brothers, Paul, Danny and AJ, throw in Marv Monroe and it' was a real family reunion. Amazingly I saw very little of Linette, aside from a nice hug, she was invisible most of the time busying herself with what seemed like a huge family of folks and kids.

The music? Well, it was wonderful. George Miklas and his pretty daughter burned up the stage. She is turning out to be a very good player and George blew me away with his chord work. I thought that Tony Scrod was the only one who could play 8 chords in 2 seconds, end to end on the chord! WOW! extremely difficult and George pulled it off amazingly hitting the chords. Very impressive!
My heart jumped with joy when I walked into Danny's nice 'pavilion', nicely cooled with a dozen or more fans ( the air blowing kind hehe) and saw Ray Daiely on stage! I met Ray a few years ago at " Buckeye " in Columbus where we played just a tune or two, now I saw my chance to play a whole lot with Ray, and we proceeded to do just that. Ray is a great guitar player who plays all the music I do. We must have played about fifty songs and he was superb. I was in ecstasy. When you play with great players, they make you better and as Paul mentioned in his very nice and appreciated accolades, I weaved things that I normally don't really have a chance to do. So satisfying.

One person I really missed was Doc Havis. I never got around to asking about him. Hope he is OK...after all he was getting up in the age, but last year he played up a storm. He is the only person ( besides me to my knowledge , that is) who plays   "Meet Mr. Callaghan", a great tune you can look up on YouTube with Chet Atkins, the Master!
This year I brought Sandra, and my friend Bill Denison and his lovely wife Heather. Bill does not do the passenger bit, so he drove, which I really like. Six hours on the road went by in a flash and then we put on the GPS and found Danny's place with no sweat!
When I saw two potties, I was impressed, WOW! ...an International event and TWO potties...impressive, Danny.
Danny's playing  is like good wine aging, just getting better and better, and A.J. /Age, whatever you want to call him is just a smooth old dog! We did a fair bit 'o playing and as always, if I'm a 'weaver' he is a Master" weaver". A profound pleasure to play with him. I wanted to do 'Black Orpheus" with him, but just didn't happen,<sniff> It was also a pleasure to see Age's wife Barbara, hard to find a sweeter person!
So, now it's back to 'oith'  and just wait for next year just waiting to see what Danny 'cooks up' for that! This year was a nice pool, and the expanded 'lunch room' deck with Linette's family cooking up a storm. Such nice guys and so friendly

So, until next year, the Good Lord willing, when we will once again come to Danny's and Linette's family 'harmonica party/picnic. stay cool and "PRACTICE"!!!!!!!!!

The Viking of da North.... :D :D :D

oh, I'm so sorry. :( Can you post a photo of him if you have one, Dan? I know I know him...but for some reason kept mixing him up with someone else I used to see frequently at conventions--so would appreciate being able to put his name to his face. I must have missed the posting about his passing--or my memory's becoming faulty.
