Well people with a 280 and Super 64 will have to chime in.
I'm on the Super side of this discussion, but mostly because I just love the clarity of the Super's sound. I got a really precise one first time out and it still plays beautifully today. The 280's are good (enough) but for 'me' not necessarily the best fit, which is why I gave away most of them. Just a matter of personal taste and I can tell the difference in sound between any of my 64 chromatics. The Hering has an entirely different sound altogether and when I play that one after the Super I notice heads turning and people looking to see what changed.
Where the sound differences become very obvious is from my Super with the wood covers compared to the other 3 Supers I have. As everyone else who's added wood covers to a chromatic can attest, there is a big difference in sound. Isn't necessarily 'better' (at times I miss the 'ringing' tone the wood covers tend to mute down), but it's nice and suits a lot of my playing.
