Here's the latest

Hi Danny and all - I'm thinking of driving out from Massachusetts with a neighbor of mine who plays blues on that little devil's instrument.  Wondering who will be performing and leading workshops so I can convince him that he would have a good time.  I know I would.

Thank you for the well wishes Scotty.  I'm getting a lot of experience with birthdays so maybe some year I'll get good at having them.

I got my replies kinda mixed up yesterday, substituting Huntington Harmonicollege with Buckeye, then combining them with Danny's.  I need to turn off Family Feud when I go public with my ramblings.   Like now.  LOL. Those biscuit recipes on TV look so good.  Yummm

Paul, please go to Buckeye.  The drive is easy and you will see some beautiful country as well as  a beautiful city.  Not to mention the fun we will have puffing and tooting.  I've got to get me some biscuits like they just baked on TV.

Sandy is indeed going to make the treck with me, likely taking some sewing projects to keep her hands busy.  I cannot convince her to learn to play a harmonica but she does make great music with her needles.

LOL - now that was funny. :) Look - shiny object over there! (oh, it's only Sandy's sewing needles.)

I should bring my knitting --we'd make a fine pair, although I still haven't yet figured out how to play harmonica and knit at the same time.
I've posted a suggestion to Paul on his facebook page about Buckeye, so let's hope he sees it. If I can now get past this infernal cough --I
might be able to make my plans!

Yes!! Oh, you have to go! Maybe --IF there's a way to figure out where we can 'cross paths', we could connect up to at least do half the trip? - but I
suspect going directly to Ohio from Maryland takes you on a shorter route than ours from LI to Columbus. Nevertheless, IF you do decide to come up
through Delaware, New Jersey, etc --we could maybe work something out? We have time to figure it out .

---Or HERE's a thought --if your wife doesn't want to go and wants to instead visit her folks in NY - we could pick you up and drop you off there?   Remotely possible? We'd have tons of room in our vehicle even with all my gear, lol.  :)

Looking forward to meeting up with you again Paul.  Also at Danny's in July.  It's more than 400 miles from our current home but we are slowly moving to West Virginia, which will put us a couple hours drive from both locations.  Hope we get our move finished before these events.  As a side note, I think Budweiser has a huge plant near the hotel.

Aww...that's too bad. I guess it'd be too much to ask you to first drive to NY, and then ride-share with us. That'd add SO many more miles to your
trip. The only upside is that you'd get to practice with me in the car. :) Not sure Fred would enjoy it all that much, though, hahaha.

Agree about Danny--he's unstoppable and makes these incredible trips - with all of his gear, no less, from one end of the Country to the other. I have
no idea how he does it. We used to --but that was quite some time ago.

Oh cool! I'm assuming there will be 'other things' including jams going on during the day - and jams at night? You've listed quite a few people I know and whose playing I really dig so it sounds like a lot of fun - again. :)

We've already booked the Hotel, but hadn't yet signed up for the Convention itself (wasn't sure if it was still 100% 'on' or not, or whether I'D even be 100% by then or not. ;) So far, it's a go and...at least I have my room. :)

Thanks, Danny!

It has to be kind of short and pithy. I'm sure it's a riff on George being an original member of the Harmonicats, but agree. Copy Cats doesn't quite work for me either. How about: 'Hep Cats', 'Cat's Miaow', 'Thundercats', 'On Little Cat Feet'?  - just tossing out ideas... ;D

Hi,Elizabeth
yeah-I like 'Hep Cats'.   I think the reasoning is at Danny G's party last July; Wally;George; and I were jamming and the most known music to play are Harmonicat arrangements and thats what Marv would like me to play.  This is my first time headlining; so I'm both excited and a little nervous.   But I don't want to play the same songs everyone else does when they play 'Cats tunes.   I want to do some songs no one else thought of.  No 'Peg' although its a good song, just a little overplayed.   This ought to be fun and interesting!   And if I read correctly-you'll be there?   Looking forward to meeting you!!

Yes - it'll be nice to meet you too. :) I went to Buckeye regularly for a few years before it ended for a while.  It's especially nice to see it back in business. I don't think I've ever heard Peg NOT played at any harmonica Convention, though. Someone will play it, so might as well be you guys? I know for sure that George and Wally have played it and are about as expert as you can get...and likely Alex plays it too - since I think he's the chord player? --and it does feature the chord mostly, so might be a nice idea to feature him if Alex is the young player I'm thinking of. The audiences will feel disappointed if they don't get to hear it at least once, anyway.

I think AJ has a special chord harmonica that "just for old times sake" needs to play Peg every now and then.
And yes Scotty, Alex (AJ) is the young man you're thinking of.

Yeah, we're talkin' bout the "snot-nosed A.J." as opposed to the "old fart A.J" what runs the forum, right? ;D  I'm definitely no chord player but FWIW, I also have a chord that I pick up every now and then just to see if I can still play the silly thing a little.  I dug it out (along with my bass) the other day (after my looper arrived)

The Sgro Brothers play it--maybe they will.   I'm still not sure of the song list--they still have to contact me so we can discuss what to play.  I'll practice it anyway!

I couldn't agree more with you Carl, i feel using the name "Copy Cats" may be a bit of a downer to the original Harmonicat's name. We will definitely need to talk about names for our trio.

As for doing Peg, myself as well as Iowaplayer both agree that "PEG", despite me having one of the early Al Fiore 48 chords in my collection, probably won't be good for the Saturday night show. With us being the show opener, its a good idea to do some songs that definitely will grab the folks attention. Peg, as much as it is a neat song, is a song that has been played over and over again. It's not a good opener song.

I think AJ has a special chord harmonica that "just for old times sake" needs to play Peg every now and then.
And yes Scotty, Alex (AJ) is the young man you're thinking of.

Just wait until you see the 1930s "YELLOW MUSTARD" model 48 chord. Its super ugly but sounds neat as it is inverted.

I like how you phrase that --about his chord.  ;D It'll be cool to get to see and hear him play Live.

Scotty, I don't know if you know or not but i believe Danny is referencing my "Al Fiore" chord, which was the model used to record Peg in 1947 :)

I did NOT know that- so thanks for cluing me in! - Wow, so how can you not then play Peg using it?  :D

I understand that you perceive it as not a good opening number --so don't open with it --but if you're doing at least a couple of songs, then maybe fit 'some of' Peg into a medley? It would be immensely cool IF one of you then stepped forward to explain what you've just did: that this was 'THE' chord played by Al Fiore and used to record that song, I can assure you that a Buckeye audience would be thrilled!

Wow-for a song thats been 'overplayed'-it seems everyone wants to hear it.   Once George;AJ; and I get together and put a song list together-we'll see.  We can't play it if The Sgros plan to play it in their show.  Looking forward to this!!!   Thanks to Marv for reviving a great festival and thanks to all those behind the scenes making this work!!!  If it wasn't for them-there wouldn't be a fest!!    Back to practicing......

It is NOT "THE CHORD" but definitely one of the first chords of the same era. Ingraved covers.... early thin combs. It is the chord used to possibly record "Diane" on the 78 RPM Cut. Listen close you will hear a inverted "C" chord, which my chord has.

Still a early AL chord, very pretty instrument.
