Harmonica opened for the first time. Is this normal?
« on: January 21, 2022, 11:13:00 AM »
Hi, I opened the plates of my Easttop Forerunner 1248NV chromatic harmonica for the first time in order to have a go at trying to fix a few reeds choking/gapping following a Hohner tutorial.

I see that several of the reeds have clear signs of them having been scratched with some sort of precision drill, which I understand it is done when tuning each reed.

But is it normal that the reeds show those tuning scratch marks already if I am the first owner and opened them for the first time?

(See two photos attached)

Thanks!

That's normal. I have seen chromatics with NO tuning marks, and also ones with as many as 38 marks.

They might need a little "tweak" before leaving the factory so that's what they do to make it close to tune. No biggie.
