Only now it's HOT!
Not sure about "officially" but every thermometer around this house was reading well into the nineties!  I went downstairs and grabbed another air conditioned and jammed in the bedroom window for tonight's "blanket show." (without blankets ,that is.  )

Then I cut 1/2" foil sided, foam insulation for the windows, Wow! That made a pretty big difference. We've been at  a steady 78°F since then indoors.

Guess what - it's raining in Ireland .

Went out early to mow my front lawn.  Temps here have been over 100 deg F for the past four days.
That's not abnormal in the middle of SC.
I'll head to the coast on Sunday where the temps will be 10 degrees cooler with an ocean breeze.

Had a couple short rain storms yesterday and in a few minutes, it turned to steal and burnt off. Twenty minutes later, everything was dry again . It was so muggy, I had to stay inside to keep from drowning. Actually, the heat kinda reminded me of Cairns in December.

I'm making a styrofoam liner for one of the saddlebags on the bike, then we're going out to get some milk and ice cream.

Vermont's been delightful the last few days. 70–80º, sunny (mostly). August is our warmest month. (As has been said, "Eleven months of winter, one month of rough sledding.")

I can deal with Long Island (NY) weather - mostly. Have heat and two fireplaces (one wood-burning, the other gas-fed). In the Summer we have Central Air. Two systems, in fact - since the new garage addition (and room above) ended up requiring an
entire NEW air conditioning system which cost nearly as much as the one for the rest of the house! Ah well. That one at least,
still works so I could go upstairs to cool off - then not get anything done other than playing keyboards. The regular system has decided to stop working - as soon as the weather got hot, humid and SO horrible one feels as though you're breathing through water. We do have ceiling fans everywhere - but first of course, one must clean ALL the dust bunnies from the top of said fans AND cabinets, all nearby surfaces, etc. While we wait, the hair from two long-haired white dogs is creating tumble-weeds throughout. Fun. I have a standing floor fan blowing directly on me and the dog right now. It helps to a small degree but
still have an awful migraine (the worst of which usually come on when it rains - which it did today, again). Woe is me. (lolol)

PS: After 2 weeks of 'experts' coming in to check the system, it'll now take Lennox at least two weeks to get 'the part' in from Texas. Then they'll schedule an appointment to come. Cost? $1,500. They could be making this up out of whole cloth and we wouldn't have a clue.  Lennox only sells their parts to their 'licensed dealers'. This is not an old system. We lived without central air for most of the life of this house. Now I don't seem to be able to manage well without it. Sigh.

Here in Houston I have the ½ inch styrofoam with one isde foil board ready for my bedroom windows and use them all summer and some of the winter.   

Camping supply stores have "space blanket", which is thin mylar witih aluminum coating. Put it over your windows and it bounces heat away, Keeps you cool inside.

I also have sheets of thick styrofoam cut ot the shape ofwindows. Styrofam shets was packing materials in dumpstrs of furniture stores.

It worked great for ice cream!! (except of course, for Butter Pecan and "Sea salt & Caramel" That stuff is soft whey ya buy it!)

I used that same half-inch foam stuff (one side foil) on my windows. Monster difference! Still lets some sunlight in, but knocks five degrees F of the inside temperature.

I stretch 100 feet of garden hose out on to my driveway, and get enough hot water to do my whole car or motorcycle. I really don't think my plants would like it though.

Now, today through tomorrow night - we have a Scottish named Hurricane 'Ian' bearing down on areas of Florida (seemingly headed right for where Smokey in NorthPort - and some of my cousins in Cape Coral, live), with mandatory evacuations. But
where are people supposed to go, I'm wondering? My sister-in-law no longer lives in Tampa since she decided to move to Virginia with one of her nieces after my brother John's death, so I'm not worried about her. Seems that (as usual), so many elderly Floridians are determined to ride it out. I hope they're correct and it doesn't cause the damage predicted, but it just 'feels'
ominous. Up here on Long Island we'll be getting tons of rain (as we did last week). No problem, we'll manage...living on a
hilly street is a big help. I'm mostly worried about Florida.

I use those plastic strips of big packing balloons. We’re talking eggs in panniers on a 28 mph ebike. Double on the bottom and all around. Just a thing that can be done.

It’s been real nice here in Oklahoma the past few days—down to the 50s at night, mid 80s during the day.
I feel for the folks in Tampa—and SmoJoe’s gonna have to suffer thru this, wonder if he is going to evacuate?

I was assuming he and Cass would go to his daughter in Jacksonville - but now the latest track shows that even there
won't be spared as this is turning into a Monster storm (category 3 or 4 when it finally makes landfall), AND will track
clean across Florida to the East Coast before turning North with even as much as up to two FEET of rain there in Central
Florida (can their ground hold that much water?) We're even supposed to see heavy rains from it by the end of the week=
end.
It's already spawning some small-ish tornadoes and we even had a tornado here on Long Island the other day (highly un-
usual). Haven't found out yet what my cousins are doing. He has a daughter with 5 young sons living across the street so
it'd be their entire family having to leave - Cape Coral. We're all worried.

Have lived through many bad hurricanes, including Hugo in '89.  The wind is usually not an issue.  It's the water!  I folks are in an area where the storm surge can pile up, they should leave.  If their area is prone to flooding/flash floods, they should leave.  If they're on 'high ground" and have a sufficient supply of water, food, energy (batteries, generator, etc.).  They'll likely be fine.  My wife and I have stayed at a small condo unit right on the beach at Ft. Myers Beach each March for years.  I'm not sure we'll see it again.

I know what you mean. We lived in Tampa for a short stent too.
I told my wife all the chickens in Ebor City will probably be blown away.
I remember being down on the sea wall. That place is going to
be under water pretty bad. 155 mph winds this morning. I just glad
to not be there now.

As it turned out Tampa was spared a Direct Hit.
Ft Meyers, not so much. They are going to be
rebuilding a bunch down there because of Ian.

Here in Columbia we’re having a good bit of rain and a bit of wind. Nothing damaging so far. Our condo at North Myrtle Beach is on the third floor so should stay dry. LOTS of flooding there right now and the storm hasn’t made landfall yet. Not as devastating as Florida, but it will be bad.

I didn’t have it bad, but there is still a foot of water in my back yard. I have a couple of trees down, and lost my bananas and papayas, but they should grow back quickly.
A little bit of cleaning up to do, and I’ll be busy over on the west coast for a bit until we can get all the water out of there and get the canals flowing.

I work in storm water. My job is to build/ manage biological filtration systems (also called swamps) to clean the water before it goes to the estuaries or the Everglades.  We also use them for flood control. I treat them like big farms, and grow different plants for different purposes. Deep water, flow resistance, Nitrogen uptake, phosphorus uptake, soil stabilization,…
We have just over 100k acres and until this year there were only two of us. We got some help this year, the newbies are learning fast, the hard way now.
