Hand cream?
« on: May 08, 2023, 11:34:12 PM »
I worked for a couple months at an ink factory back in the sixties, where we used some wierd smelling hand cream beforehand, and the stuff made cleaning up afterwards real easy.. I think the stuff was called Mano or something but I couldn't Google it up, so I wonder if I got the name rong or they just don't make the stuff anymore. Doing a lotta dirty motorcycle and car work and I wanna try to keep my mitts a bit cleaner. Anyone got any ideas?

That Workman's Friend stuff fits the description pretty good, except the stuff I remember came in kinda like a shoe polish can. I remember packing it under my fingernails when I got to work and just rubbing it in till it disappeared. Hated the smell of the stuff but it worked very well. Maybe I'll order some of this new stuff and see how it goes. Thnx :)

Swarfega was a trade name for a grease/muck remover that I used to use, it was a jelly like substance, but there were quite a few 'barrier creams', just look up that term.

Age: could it be this one? Duluth Trading Company's - which has been around since 1942. ;)

This is the 4oz size but they carry a much bigger jar (16oz) as well.

PS: just got another pop-up from Duluth. They have another one in the kind of tin you described:

Age: Duluth began I believe in Wisconsin, but I just checked and they have several stores IN Ohio. Click on the 'view all stores' link - see if one is reasonably close to you if you prefer shopping at a physical store, rather than online.

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more the name "Mano" makes sense.

I remember it was chalky white and had a than pleasant "fragrance."

Just found a like to the stuff but got a warning that the site was not safe. Oh well!

But yeah, the stuff was called Man-O or some thing like that. Worked great even on inked up hands. Just washed off with soap and water.

Yeah, there ya go! Man-O! ;D ;D
Looks like this new stuff must be more of a liquid than the "paste" stuff I remember from back in the sixties, that came in what looked more like a shoe polish tin. Good stuff though! :)
