Same rules apply as question #1

At first 1951 till 1958
Again at around 1980 something till now.

Pretty bad without SlideMeister -  I hope all you whippersnappers
realize how lucky you are. Back in the day we would take a harmonica
apart and nobody would recognize it once it was put back together.

     20 Mar 1955 (exactly 12.5 yrs. old).
     12.5 to 14, I practiced
14 to 15 played at the Gardina del Mare (sea garden), in the corner of Luna Park, Naples Italy. (Tips)
16 to 17 played at the Austerlitz train station, Paris Fr. (Paid)
     17.25 turned professional N.Y., N.Y., local 802 (mother signed)
17.75 left home, became a hobo, quit playing at 18.
In the 30 intervening years would pop up now and then and appear somewhere. Was blessed to have sat in with local and visiting out of town musicians in the Pittsburgh area. But never again pursued professional status.
48 met Herb Eck (1991), went to Steel Valley harmonica club, then to spah. Started playing again.
50 (Christmas 93), son was killed, quit playing
55 (1998) started playing again...IN Florida, had been active since.
      69 (Sept 2011)...retired.

I was just turning 15 when I started playing diatonic. My mother knew that chromatic was supposed to be the harmonica that would play in all keys, so bought me one for my birthday, taking me to a music store and letting me choose the one I wanted (I chose a Koch 980 because they had it in stock, despite the warning that it wasn't completely chromatic, but soon after bought myself a 280).

So I've been playing diatonic and chromatic side by side since the beginning.

Back then the 980 probably cost $10. A 270 was $15 and a 280 was $20. Marine Bands were $3.25.
