My social distancing project
« on: October 11, 2020, 11:17:50 PM »
I started learning this piece last March as sort of a Covid 19 lockdown project. It was 2 weeks ago today that I had the accident with my table saw and even though having a mangled up hand makes it more difficult, like I can't handle the weight of my favorite Easttop brass 64, it ain't pretty but at least I can still play. An added benefit is that when I'm really focused on the music I don't think about pain. I decided to post the video here for my friends but because my vanity doesn't like how my hand looks I didn't make it public.. The video is unlisted meaning that only those with this link can see it.

What an inspiration! Despite your physical condition with pain, your playing is fantastic! May God bless Danny! I admire and respect you.

So nice to see that all your fingers are still there, Danny. One of the reasons I decided to play harmonica is that no matter what physical limitations life throws at us, as long as we’re breathing we can still make music. So glad to see you’re playing.

You are something else, Danny. But I could see your pain - no matter how you were hiding it (blurring the video to hide the
worst of your hand damage). I really cringed when you lifted your damaged hand to support the instrument (having been
at a point where I couldn't support my own chromatic after hand surgery...but nothing close to what you're going through).
Just had a thought: how about using an elastic bandage wrapped further up your forearm (on the left arm) so you can slide
the end of the chromatic through a loop of it? ...or alternately use a long-ish loop of fabric or soft belt around your neck and
upper torso --creating a sling to rest that arm and again - rest the chromatic on top of your forearm so you're not having to use
the hand itself? I can see what it's costing you and it seems far too soon, although I know what you mean about the music
distracting from the pain. There just might be a better way to play without bringing on more pain.

Well done, though. I just hate that you're going through this.
hugs, Scotty

Hello, Danny G.

Your performance of Rodrigo's
Adagio from the Concierto de
Aranjuez is both beautiful and
heroic.

I've never heard it played better.
You are an artist with a soul.

But, we already knew that.

Holy cow, Danny. That was beautifully done. And...bravely done!!  Good on you for not allowing the accident to deter your project. We happen to be the same age, and your tenacity is an inspiration to me as a “senior”. I’ve only been playing for about 15 months now, but have a couple of projects of my own in the works. Difference is... I have full use of all my limbs and digits, and the music I’m working on is much less complex. Nevertheless, I LOVE the instrument, and I truly appreciate talent and perseverance like yours. Hope to meet you at some event when this over reaction to COVID is done.

Gives me a greater appreciation of what guys lie you live with it every single day.and at least these's a chance that mine might work again. I can play mine for a half hour or so but no more. I'm really impressed that you play your brass Easttops with one hand

That was great! (And you play octaves with so much ease)

One can't help noticing how much your hand must hurt. But it didn't stop you from making music, which is really nice. I wish you a speedy recovery.

Best regards
Kris
