COVID-19 has shut down many businesses in my area. As a matter of fact, I have not worked outside my house at my regular "part-time" job where I can work as many as 105 hours in a week driving commercial tour bus since mid-March. The result is that I am in my harmonica repair shop, fixing harmonicas, along with my beautiful daughter, who is also a world-class chromatic harmonica player and top-notch harmonica technician.

I registered for four doctoral classes for this summer since I knew that I would not be going far from home. My daughter has kept my shop going for hours where I am in the books and writing academic papers. We work together in the same space so that I am able to put finishing touches on repairs, tuning, and I personally quality control test every harmonica before it is shipped to its owner.

Speaking of Covid-19, we use an Ozone generator and chamber to disinfect all harmonicas that come in and out for repair.

In March, there was a 14-month backlog on all harmonica repairs. As of today, we have reduced that to 6-months. I anticipate that by the end of July, we will be completely caught up and repair turn around should then return to a reasonable 2-3 weeks. Please remember as life goes, all things are subject to change.

To all of my customers, thank you for your support!

UPDATE (July 30, 2020): Turn around time is now 1 month or less!

This week we are working on harmonicas sent in the end of June and July and by next Wednesday, I anticipate that we will be completely caught up. To keep my turnaround time short, I have previously discontinued service for Harmonettas and Melodicas and it is my intention keep it this way because narrowing of services in this way has been a contributing factor to getting to 1 month or less.

COVID-19 NOTICE: All harmonicas sent to Harmonica Gallery for repair are disinfected in Ozone once when they arrive to protect me and once again before they leave to protect you. All refurbished harmonicas sold are disinfected in Ozone before they are shipped. All new harmonicas are sealed at the factory and are not disinfected in this way.

Janalyn has been a big help to getting my backlog caught up this summer. In just two weeks, Janalyn will begin her new position as Graduate Assistant (GA) in The Writing Center at George Mason University where she is also studying for her Master of Arts in English and Ph.D. in Linguistics.

I am currently in classes for my Doctor of Music Education degree with research and preparation to write my 150 page doctoral thesis titled The Historical and Contemporary Applications of the Harmonica in Music Education, Music Therapy, Respiratory Therapy, and On Stage. If I'm lucky, it will make the best sellers list... among harmonica players who care about the instrument's past and appreciate future promotional efforts for the harmonnica! I am on track for degree conferral May 2021.
