Twighlight Zone Experiences
« on: December 24, 2022, 05:06:43 PM »
When I was a sophomore in high school,
there were two John Broecker sophomores.

One was spelled Bruecker, and I am spelled
Broecker.

John Bruecker was familiar to me, but was
not seen every day.

In the school year 1964-'65, John Bruecker
died. I went to his funeral, and people were
surprised to see me.

They gave me the squint-eye, blink-eye,
stink-eye, crook eye, slant-eye and frown-
eye. But, not the Pop-eye.

They mostly avoided me, and whispered
to their friends.

I felt like a victim of something, couldn't
understand the feelings I had. I couldn't
stay more than 10 minutes. I left.

The Twilight Zone was a USA-TV show
in the 1960s. It had many weird, bizarre,
spooky and scary stories, about surreal
phenomena.

What's your Twilight Zone story?

See you in the parallel universe.

JB (with an "o").

Back in the sixties, I went on a two-day trip with a tech friend of mine to service some horizontal-scan, quadraplex video recorders in some Pennsylvania TV stations. During the trip I lost the spare car key I always kept in my watch pocket. One of those things where you look in the same place fifty times and feel like an idiot for even looking there again. When I got home, I told my wife "I lost the key I always keep in this pocket." while instinctively sticking my index finger in it to indicate which pocket I was referring to. It was there! Ooooooooooooooo! That one still bugs me.

I was cleaning out my mother's house after she passed.  She had a freezer with a lock on the door. I promised the freezer to a friend of mine .
My mother was a clothing " Collector "  so we had a mountain of  clothing in the backyard to donate.
While I was getting the freezer ready to give away I went to the yard to get a shirt to use as a rag to clean it up. So I'm cleaning it with windex and rag in my hands I say to myself that even though the thing is unlocked it would be nice to give it away with the keys.  And at that moment I discovered the keys were in my hand because they were in the shirt pocket.
In order to really appreciate this happening you have to imagine the mountain of clothing I picked this shirt from. It at least 8 feet tall!               Brian

SO..aaanyway, I was away in the Navy. Sardinia I think? I get discharged in Brooklynn and take a train back to Pgh. Someone I knew from schooil had died in an auto accident. I went to the funeral parlor to pay my respects and when I walked in the door, Ron Magachefski fainted to the floor.

It turns out that a year before a young man with the same name as I had gassed himself in his car and Ron had gone to his funeral. Having never met his parents, Ron wasn't aware that the people whom he was giving his lamentations to weren't MY family. He had always thought the dearly departed was me. Because of the coloration of the departed the casket was closed, and Ron hadn't actually seen the body.

OK, here's mine:

I was in high school in 1963.  Played linebacker and guard on the football team.  In late summer practice, it was announced we'd have a practice "scrimmage" with a school 50 miles west of us.  After the practice on Thursday, I took my uniform home and my mom washed it for me.  I also took my old black cleats home to clean up and polish.  Mom told me to give her the shoe strings, and she'd wash them with my uniform.  I polished the cleats and gave mom.  She said she'd put the shoestrings back in them while I was in school on Friday, and that she'd have my uniform packed in my duffle when I got home from school.

My mom and dad and siblings left for the scrimmage before I got home from school that day.  One of the coaches was to stop by and pick me up to take me to the scrimmage.  I got home, found my uniform, and went to sit out on the front porch steps to wait for my ride.  I looked in the duffle to find that my cleats were not there!  I went back inside and looked EVERYWHERE for those cleats.  Couldn't find them.

I went back to the front porch, sat on the steps, and pondered how embarrassed I'd be to have to play in "tennis shoes" that night.  I closed my eyes and just thought to myself, "Where on earth would mom have put those cleats?"

As I wondered, suddenly there was a "video" in my head.  Clear as day.  I saw myself get up, walk back into the laundry room, and raise the shades on the windows to that room.  When (in my video head!) I raised the shades, there were my cleats ... sitting on the window ledge to dry in the sunlight.

I thought to myself, "That's a stupid thought!".  But, I got up and went into the laundry room.  Raised the shades, and ... there they were!  Just as it had appeared in my "daydream"!

I took the cleats and threw them into my duffle, and never said anything to my mom about the incident.

There 'ya go!

Good one Brorat, a real good one.

So..McDonald's burned down and now there's just a parking lot.
We used to go there for lunch every day at 12 on the dot.
But we were out of town and I guess it got really cold.
Someone turned on the heat, the ductwork caught fire, or so we're told.

Don't it seem to suck that we can't seem to have any luck.
McDonald's burned down and now it's a parking lot. Dat dat, da da da da
So they took all the Big Macs and put them in a burger museum.
And now they charge everyone a dollar and a half just to see em.

The older I get, the less likely I can pass a hand (other body part) through solid objects. Always knocking things over lately. Also, objects turn invisible until I've looked for them in the same place a dozen times before they reappear. :o

I'm not afraid of anything but thinking about 87,000 new IRS agents scared me into hiring a new (local) CPA this morning.

I have hesitated to tell this story because you all will think I'm nuts. In college I dated a gal for 6 months and we broke up. A year later she got married and moved away. A year after that, 1982, I got married and moved in the opposite direction. This was before social media like Facebook allowed you to keep track of everybody you had ever met. We had no contact for probably 12 years. I didn't even know if she was still alive. We lived about 100 miles from each other. Then I had the most vivid dream of my life. It was so different that it really shook me up. She was in the dream, and I could see details of the place she was at. I was supposed to warn her about something, but I didn't know what. For 3 days I tried putting it out of my mind, but it kept popping into my head every hour or so. Against my better judgement, I got her phone number (can't remember if it was from directory assistance or if we had internet by then) and called her. I expected her to think I was crazy, but instead she told me she knew exactly what the dream and the warning were about. The place in the dream was real and she had been there just 3 days earlier with some guy she worked with. Her husband had been neglecting her and going out of town a lot and her coworker was getting all sweet with her. She had been agonizing over getting a divorce and moving on with the new guy. The day I called, she had decided to go ahead and begin the affair and was on her way out the door to go to the other guy's house when I called. The fact that I described a place and event only her and him knew about was taken by her as a sign. Instead of meeting him, she called him and called the whole thing off. A few months later she called me back. A week after my call, her husband came back from a business trip and apologized for neglecting her and said he was going to make changes and be home more and pay more attention to her and the kids. Today, almost 30 years later, they are still married and now enjoying their grandkids. I hope I never have another dream like that. It was way too weird and kind of freaked me out. I'm a science guy. Twilight Zone stuff makes me uncomfortable.

Actually, it makes perfect sense to me. Stuff like that has happened to me for the last fifty-three years. It's not "twilight zone" but rather comes down on the religious side, so I'll just leave it at that, so I don't get yelled at. :)

Even if you didn't tell her that she visited you in a dream, most if not all wives would show you a real (get) outta this world experience for getting in touch with a former girlfriend.

Thus my reluctance. I did talk to my wife about it. She knows I don't fool around. I can't afford a nasty divorce!
