Nor'easter
« on: March 15, 2023, 07:15:46 PM »
We've been digging out of a 16" heavy, wet snowy Nor'easter. No electricity for ~30 hours, no phone service for 24. I'm gettin' too old for this; shoveled out to the cars and cleaned them off all by myself, probably 3-4 hours work. Funny thing, my muscles don't feel it. Doing something right @79! Welcome to Vermont!

What a contrast to mine!
I had to work several hours to mow the overgrown grass after an unusual season of storm and flooding in NZ.

Yeah, I like working hard like that too. They say it's supposed to kill you (some day) even though it really makes ya feel alive. How'z that for a contradiction? The way I see it, sooner or later something's gunna kill us (". . as in Adam, all die.") So, if I get to choose, it's gunna be from something I enjoy doing.  8)

I've always enjoyed anything that shows progress like painting, building, roofing, cutting grass, clearing trees, even shoveling my 1265 sq foot driveway and patio. When I had the snow blower and was out doing the yard and someone called, Barbara would always say "He's out playing in the snow," cuz she knew how much I enjoyed it. My son Gabe is just like his old man.

I enjoy the gratification of seeing quick (relatively!) progress, too.  In my "work life", I usually was working on projects that took a long time, and the progress was slow.  It was great finally getting the results, but the days between start and finish were LOONNNNGGG!

Now, as an old retired coot, I enjoy projects that give me results pretty quickly.  Raking leaves from my yard, mowing my grass (in perfect diagonal strips!), installing a new under cabinet microwave, fixing a broken lamp, clearing up an issue with my computer ... all these types of things give me reasonably quick gratification, and I thoroughly enjoy doing them.  To be truthful, I HAVE reached a point where things like leaf raking and mowing take longer to finish!  I find I have to take more frequent and longer breaks! ;)

Life is good!

My tractor water pump needs replaced (always something to do once Spring has sprung )  I have a lot more driveway than A@e so I'm thankful that the 16 inches of snow fell somewhere else. (Sorry Tom) Work may be crabgrass on the lawn of life but we've known a lot of people who get planted after retiring and becoming couch potatoes. I'm thankful when I can fall into bed exhausted and still wake up in the morning. Thank God I'm an old country boy.

Had a pretty severe storm here the other day/night. Power went out around 2PM and stayed out all day and didn't come back on till after 2 in the morning. Finally got a chance to use the new generator I bought after my garage fire that roasted my last generator.

We were more or less "home-bound" for the last couple days. Last night at 2:30 Electric company trucks were lill up and down our roads fixing stuff. Just heard on the radio how bad Geauga county was hit. Zowie! There are trees down all over the place.

Maybe we'll get out tomorrow and look around at the carnage, eh?  Time like these make me glad we like each other so much. ;D ;D

The high winds here ( I live on top of a meadow-laden hill) were pretty severe.  Two smaller sections of my fairly new roof came tumbling down, my windmill blades broke the welds and flew apart and small limbs and twigs were strewn all over my yard.  The good news was no serious damage and no one hurt.  My heart aches for those victims who suffered the fierce winds with all their destructive forces.  The Southern states have suffered too many deaths and physical destructions.

Snow? What's that?

We've had an unusually mild winter
into spring, in southeastern Wisconsin.

It seems that everybody else is getting
bad weather.

I live in an apartment building, so I
don't shovel snow, or do any outside
maintenance.

Live it up, Sliders.

Best Regards, Don't overdo it.

I love living out here but it ain't all peaches and cream. We're last in line when there's a power outage. I've been 5 days waiting on Edison. They sent 2 guys  out from Akron yesterday to get the ID number off of the telephone pole. They came back with a bucket truck and a couple guys with chain saws, cleaned up some of the tree that caused the damage. They were here about a half an hour and left. Got a text from them that they might have it fixed by 10 PM today. It's 11 AM and they still aren't here. On the positive side I bought a bunch of extension cords,  fired up the generator, dug out an old aluminum percolater
and have been enjoying the aroma of fresh brewed cofffee that I'd almost forgotten smelled so good. Too cold in the house to plat chromatic. If they don;t get it fixed today I don't think we'll be having a SlideMeister Zoom tomorrow unless @ge can pull it off.

Hey Age. Ordinarily I’d be happy to try. I’m in charge of a big HOA Annual meeting on Saturday and it’s got me swamped. I do plan to join in, and I’d be ok with giving you a hand doing whatever.
Let me do a little research in the morning. Think we could hook up by phone after lunch to see how to make this happen?

Bottom line:  We’ll make it happen.

I went to Sheets an hour or so ago and much to my surprise when I got back there was 5 bucket trucks and a flatbed with a new telephone pole parked out front and all over Bruce's driveway. The power came back on about 15 minutes ago. I'm busily unplugging the 400 feet of extension cords from the generator and plugging in refrigerators, freezers and my desktop. here's the invitation to todays SM Zoom
