Scotty,
No, I never noticed that all the faces are the same.

If the artist changes clothing, it's occasionally difficult to tell. I've become used to it by now. :)

An old song from 1966 that seems a good fit for the festive season - at least for those of us with a sweet tooth 8).

One for St Patrick's Day - an old song from 1912 8). The sentiment goes out to all who find themselves away from the place that they want to be - wherever that may be in the world.

This from 1945. A nice song to play on Chromatic with some interesting modulations.

Never forgotten here - although in its 'translated' version of 'Beyond the Sea' by Bobby Darin. I always wondered
why the 'beyond' had to be added unless ....? Still a lovely melody. Merci beaucoups. :)

Unchained Melody (1955), by Hy Zaret
and Alex North

I've been listening to Beaver Dam, Wisconsin
native Bobby Hatfield's (1940-2003) version,
while he was half of The Righteous Brothers.
The other half of the RB was baritone singer
and producer Bill Medley.

Bobby and his family moved to Anaheim, California, in
1944. After high school, he met Billy and composed,
sang & recorded many albums.

Unchained Melody is a solo with orchestra, with no
vocals, by Alex North, was written for the obscure TV show,
"Unchained". Zaret's Lyrics were added later.

The show's plot was about a convict who debated
if he should escape the prison, or wait out his
prison term, longing to see his woman again.

Hatfield's version of the Unchained Melody was
recorded live in the USA, on TV's Andy Williams
Show in 1965.

It's currently available at Youtube, along with
1st-time reactions by listeners to the video.

Bobby was a contratenor, with an extended
vocal range of G3-G5. He uses all of that, in
the 1965 performance.

I didn't think that I'd live long enough to hear
any vocal performance that I liked, but this
version was a total surprise.

I had heard it in the past, but didn't remember it's
complexity and Hatfield's effortless performance.

Best Regards, Stay Healthy

JB

I was watching the Monterey Pop Festival today (I have the boxed edition) and heard Al Kooper's version of this tune and was inspired to share it with you--he titled it, "Wake Me Shake Me", and it was a Blues Project favorite.
This performance, however, is from another 60's favorite, the Mamas and Papas, in the incarnation before Cass convinced John Phillips that he couldn't do with her.

I really couldn't take this version. I preferred the 'Coasters' version.

Yeah, this one's Gospel, the Coaster's lyrics were different: :)

The Blues Project never got enough credit for their musicianship, IMO.  The bass on this song is AMAZING!

Without Mama Cass, this group pretty much had to depend on the eye candy provided by Michelle Phillips ;)
