Newport Jazz Festival 1964

- I wonder if anyone here was also in Newport that night, Friday, July 3, 1964. I was with family in Providence Rhode Island. I rode a bus to Newport, about 30 miles and bought a ticket for the night's show, starting at 8 pm. I had to catch a bus back and left at the intermission. The first half included Thelonious Monk and I didn't understand any of it then. The second half had Stan Getz, Chet Baker, Joe Williams and Count Basie. Wow. What a lineup.
- Were any of you guys and gals there too?
- In 1970 I drove from northern New York to Ottawa to buy parts for my Austin Healey Sprite. I discovered Kris Kristofferson was playing there and the second set had an available ticket. It started really late, 11:30 or something. I had no idea performances started so late. It was interesting that during the intermission there was just one guy who tuned the guitars. Kristofferson played a couple songs by a writer/singer he had recently heard of, John Prine.

No, I didn't get to Newport but I had a pretty blue 1959 Austin Healey Sprite in 1964
