Cindy
« on: September 20, 2021, 06:22:22 PM »
Cindy had a heart attack August 19. I'll not go into details, but she spent a little time in hospital (~5 days total) and has been recuperating at home since. She's getting in-home PT and nurse visits, will start cardio rehab at the hospital soon, been taking care of herself and exercising. She's not "better," but significantly improved. She made it yesterday to her 64th birthday (also International Talk Like a Pirate Day ;D)), and is looking forward to many more.

And I'm doing fine.

oh my goodness, Tom! I'm so sorry she's gone through this (both of you, actually). Must have been an awful experience...
and am SO glad she's home, improving...and got to celebrate her birthday with you. That's a big plus. Many don't know that women's heart attacks are quite different from those most men experience. Women's are often not recognized or
diagnosed early enough. So I wish her ALL good things, and as quick a recovery as possible.

Therapy is everything. It might not feel like it now - but 'this too shall pass' and I'll bet you'll both be reminiscing about her big scare next year at this time. :)

Hugs to you both,
scotty

"Women's are often not recognized or diagnosed early enough."

True. She went in because her inhalers weren't touching her asthma. They put her on a nebulizer, then took xrays. That's partly how she was diagnosed. She'd had a severe backache the day before, which is also a sign of a heart attack in women. She now has a stent in one artery relieving a 90% blockage.

Prognosis is good, she's not rushing it, but would like permission to drive again. :)

Thanks to all from both of us for your good wishes and prayers.

That stinks (about the late diagnosis), but it isn't rare at all, unfortunately. :( When you mentioned her being anxious to get back to driving, I immediately thought about the miniature horses. Are they going to allow her to work with them anytime soon? I'm realizing it must have been truly terrifying for you as well, but I'm sure all will be well. She's a strong lady, by everything you've mentioned about her.

My best to both of you.

Thanks, Scotty. Driving a car, not her horse. Her friend Sue is the horse driver, Cindy is the owner—although she drives sometimes, but not for competition.

After I got my first couple of stents, I felt, within a very few days, so much more capable. Given my particular circumstances, I was encouraged to do a lot of what I could. Nothing crazy, but walking for sure. My provider had a nurse, kinda like tech support for arterial disease, who guided me with things like target heart rates and durations, and who followed my test results with me.

It also helps that she, or someone close by, can readily do homework (hint hint). I sure ended up better off than the couple of years before my stents. And yah, I got pills every day, but it is so worth it.

Looking up,
Best regards,
Ed

Thanks, Ed. Cindy is getting great support, and has more energy since the stent was put in. Thinking back, and recognizing that the blockage must have been getting worse over time, her health was deteriorating slowly over a longer period than just the heart attack.

Sorry Grizz, I'm late to the announcement.
I'm so sorry your Cindy had a Heart Attack.
But it's very good you caught it in time for
treatment to work. A stent is annoying but
what a blessing they are available to those
who need them. Take good care of your girl.
Tell her Nancy & I are praying for a full recovery.

I got 5 stents in 2013. I'll pray that everything works out for her as well as it did for me.

Hi Tom,
Sorry your Cindy's had a, erm, 'health adventure'.  Glad she was treated and hoping things continue to improve.
