Danny G's harmonica party is growing up.
« on: February 27, 2007, 11:50:49 PM »
The location is changing from my house in North Benton to what's going to be my new home in Deerfield, Ohio. Here is a link with more details about the campground including maps and directions.
http://philabaunhiddencoveresort.com/
I doesn't matter if you play diatonic, chromatic, chord or bass. It doesn't matter if you read music or play by ear.  If you just want to come to listen, if you love the harmonica you're invited.  If you play an instrument, bring it with you, this is an open mic party where everyone will have an opportunity to play.

Admission is only $3.50 per person per day. I'm asking that you bring a covered dish and a lawn chair.
If you're a camper, camping rates apply

Friday July 6th and Saturday July 7th
we'll have an open mic breakfast, brunch Sunday for those who care to stay

Hi Danny,
I'm still planning to come for this wonderfully sounded party and still thinking to bring my own tent. But I am afraid to be alone at a tent site. Are there any other harmonicians who also bring their own tent with whom I can share the tent site?

Hello Atsuko:
I'm glad you're going to make it. I haven't had anyone say they were going to come and stay in a tent.  I'm sure we can set you up where you'll feel comfortable.

We finally got the WiFi network up and running at the campground and I'm having my home phone moved out here tomorrow. I'll have my DSL and desktop up tomorrow. Winter was really hard on the water system, we had 20 leaks and had to dig holes to repair 13 of them.
Now the grass is growing so fast that we're mowing 3 days per week. In our spare time we're getting ready for the party. We've moved a trailer under a pavilion and building a deck that will serve as a stage in hopes that it won't be raining. We have a large enclosed pavilion where the party will be held in case of rain.

Linette asked me to have people email her to let her know what they would like to bring so she can coordinate the food. A couple of years ago it seemed that everyone brought veggie trays and last year the table was full of deserts. Her email is anutnet@yahoo.com

I'll get back to you soon with updates

Hey Danny, Looks like there's a chance both my boys will be there! Just pretty much, finished Louie's (my oldest boy) 83 Goldwing and he want's to come down for the ride too, along with my brother Jimmy. So (if the three wives make it) there could be two Goldwings, a Honda VTX 1800 and a Suzuki Madura, and as many as seven Fedors there! Aaaaagghh! Now That's a scary thought!

Linette told me to tell you that you'd better bring Barb along. (I think she meant it)
We're really filling up for this weekend, the Little Rock Band is playing Saturday night in the pavilion and Sunday night it's The Bluesman.

I gotta feeling Barbara and I might be sneaking down there some time before the party just to check things out. Also, now that Summer's here and gas prices are so cheap (yeah right ;D  I suggest some of the more or less "local folkals" bop in to scope the place out as well.  Hey the place looks pretty cool from the air  :)

Al and Judy played here Friday night. Those of you who have seen their act know what a great show they put on and know what to expect. Most of the weekend campers come in on Friday after a long week of work. After getting set up for the weekend they're ready to sit back and relax. Friday, Linette got on a golf cart and went around the park reminding everyone that The HotShots were going to play. From what I've heard, this was the best attended Friday night events since anyone could remember. I was busy so I missed most of the show but all day Saturday people were coming up to me and telling me what a great performance they had and how much they enjoyed themselves. They really generated a lot of interest in the upcoming harmonica party and sold a lot of harmonicas and tapes. Many thanks to them.

Happy Fathers Day guys !

Okay, we know the big Viking is on his way down from Burlington eh?, but who else are we going to see there?  Since it was such a hoot the other day (oh yeah, I mean last year) and since it's just over an hour down the road from me, I'm going to try to make it for all three days. Gabe, Barbara and maybe my other son, Louie should be there too.

I know Danny's been working himself to a pulp getting the park ready for this thing. (Danny seems to have two speeds: "on and off" and doesn't do anything without 2000 pounds of gusto) so we're really looking forward to a great time.

Hope to see you there!

We're being blessed with bootiful weather, good friends, lots of food and drink and the wonderful magic that happens when harmonica lovers get together. Sounds like the makings of a great weekend.
Doc, his son Brad, Richard and Jessica showed up last night. While the guys sat around and discussed impotent things Linette, my daughter Debbie and Jessica made up 75 lbs of hamburger patties. After the girls finished loading up the refrigerator, Richard and I took a run over to my house and picked up a few odds and ends. Lin and I fell into bed around 1 AM.
I still have some running to do and I have to get the sound systems set up at the main stage and in the pavilion. I see by the old clock on the wall, there's a dead fly. That means it's time to go get ready for the show.
Take care, bless you and hope to see you this weekend.

day one and i;m almost in bed. great music and a crowd that would please the shyest of performers.
danny g was the host of host by allowing and insisting that others play before him. hats off to you, dan.
linette more than made everyone feel welcomed. thank you linette,
i will not begin to name the different individuals that were on stage, yet there was something for everyone.
there was one older fellow there with moustache and dark glasses who goes by the name of "stash". i always associated this name with unsavory behavior but after meeting
him i found out that i was most provincial in my pronunciation.
the day has now darkened and i,m going to close.
tomorrow- day two.

Okay,
The dust is all settled It's over and most of us are home, even Danny G and Linette and back home. Whew! Lotta work and preparation there guys and a heart felt thanks from all of us who attended. We had a really great time.

Danny's parties are probably the most relaxed harmonica events you will ever attend; probably because the structure is such that  . . . .well there isn't any structure! Everyone sits, stands, mingles eats, laughs, jokes, learns, shares, did I say eats? Well you get the idea. Someone was always up there on the stage playing, talking or getting ready to be playing or talking.

Everyone had a shot at the stage, even that old SlideMeister guy, Zoldie or whatever. Al and Judy Smith - The Harmonica Hotshots from Richfield, OH along with Harmonica Junction were there along with the crazy Monroe Brothers, (from the Columbus area I think)  The big Viking from Burlington, Ontario, Canada (Ingo) was there with his lovely wife Sandra. (Whatta sweetie) Atsuko "Earthquake" from "bootiful Pennsylvania" showed up on Saturday, again, all giggles and sunshine with a big Super Chromatic. Sue Smith from Ithaca, NY. Roger and Ilene from the Akron, Ohio area were there, and those guys just get better every time I hear them. We also had "jazz man" Billy Simon and that old smoothie, Herb Eck and a lot more from places I don't remember :) We all a super time. (don't get mad if I missed you - I'm an old guy y'know and forget a lot :)

Finally got to hear Atsuko. That little Lady's doing very well. It's easy to hear that Franz Chmel tongue vibrato thing she's been working on and it sounds great. She doesn't just talk it kids, she does it! Also got to play a bit with Sue Smith: what a treat!

Gabe "S.O.S," his wife Sandi, my other dirty kid, Louie and Barbara and I rode down on our motorcycles on Saturday. It was a great ride and a great time to boot.

This is the second "Danny G's HarumkaFest" I've attended in as many years and I'm really glad they're just an hour or so down the road from SlideMeister Central, up here Amish Country/Snow Belt or whatever. This party was better attended than last year's and I have every reason to believe, Lord willing, next year's will be even better, so those of you who missed it . . . .you missed it! Don't let that happen again.

Sunday, as things were winding down, Danny, Ingo, Atsuko, Sue and I just had a little JamFest in the pavilion. So another Danny party in the can. Hope to see you there next year.

I ditto A.J. and Ingo's earlier posts and add some of my impression.

First of all, I thank Danny, Linette, his 2 children and his son-in-law for their dedication throughout the events for this wonderful heartfelt welcoming party.  I enjoyed playing with his beautiful granddaughter whom I wanted to take home with me. Although 740 miles round trip is equal to my total of 2 years commuting mileage, it was worth the long distance driving.

The campground is beautiful with adjacent to a huge beautiful lake. The cottage is clean and very comfortable.  Also this is the first campground I visited that has toilets actually flash with real water.  I wish Danny and Linette the best outcome for this campground deal.

I met for the first time Ingo from Canada. It didn't take me long to figure out why he became such a good chromo player. He has an enthusiastic fan and supporter for the good music, his beautiful wife.  I also saw in him a genuine concern and care to help fellow musicians.  Wonderful!!!!

My cottage-mate, Sue Smith from NY is an intelligent and talented musician. Even though she’s been playing her chromatic only for 2 years, she has been able to play with a guitar band.  She is also able to jump in and accompany other chromo players with her chromo, this kind of talent every musician wishes to possess.

She has a formal music education and teaches over 35 private piano students and I wish she finds time to post on the forum often to give us music theory etc… to help us improve our music understanding.

I also met for the first time the family of A.J, Barbara, Gabe, and Louie. They are all sweet and handsome people. I'm so honored that 2 sons waited for me just to say hello. A.J. is sweet to offer me a ride on his proud motorbike without knowing that riding bike is my 3 NOs for the rest of my life, ha ha ha…. After all I'm not as brave as I thought I would be.

Thanks again Danny and Linette and all the wonderful & friendly participants for this memorable party.

Well you folks have already said way more than I could ever about the DannyG Fest. So I will just add a few things.

The lake turned out to be much larger than I thought it would. It is a real fun type lake complete with all kinds of boats and pleasures - motor boats, water-skiing, swimming, fishing and small beaches. A real nice place.

The food & drink was great and continuous thanks to Danny & Linette. I only meet a few SlideMeisters there but it was a pleasure. Ingo, indeed is a real nice guy and swell musician. Atsuko, it was very nice meeting you in person and unfortunely I missed your performance. You really are a cute little lady.

Overall a great time & we had excellent weather for the event & our ride down there. ;D

Just got a call from Danny G. He's currently in between ISPs and should be up in a day or so. Danny has some photos to share also. I'll be putting a few into the gallery myself. I'll admit, I was a bad boy and spent more time noodling around and yacking with the rest of the gang than I did taking pictures  ;D  I did manage to get a few nice ones though.
