Wienie Dogs!
« on: January 09, 2023, 05:58:40 PM »
Just had an experience. There's a big dog who barks day and night. I just took my walk down that way and back up. (I live on a dead end street)  When I was walking back up, he actually broke his chain so I immediately racked my little "protecter." I've done hundreds of "dog bite" cases for law firms, and absolutely refuse to be a victim of some carnivorous mutt. I like dogs, but would never hesitate to send one to that big doghouse in the sky to keep from being ripped up like a sofa cushion. As soon as Phydeaux realized he was no longer chained, although he kept barking, he was no longer barking in a threatening mode. I stuck "Ruthie" back in my belt, and walked the rest of the way home, while he continued to bark, and follow me, he stayed about 25 feet away. Goes to show ya how barking dogs usually aren't the ones to worry about; most are just weenies that like to hear themselves bark and sound tough.

Later I noticed him in my yard, peeing on my bushes, and when he decided to fertilize my lawn, I shot him in the butt with my little BB pistol, (mid loaf)  and he took off before he could pinch it off. Don't worry, it's only 178 fps and it didn't really hurt him, but I'll bet the next time I see him, he runs when I point at him. ;D

The worst part about barking dogs is not the dogs; it's their owners. What kind low-life would be oblivious to his mutt barking his brains out 24/7 in a neighborhood? I dunno man! :-[

Back in the ancient 1980’s Paul Harvey , as I recall, had a story about a man’s neighbors barking dog that was loud and relentless, barking long into the night.    The man recorded the barking dog for a lengthy time.  The neighbor worked night shift and slept during the day.  The man set out a powerful stereo speaker set next to his line fence.  After the neighbor went to sleep the man commenced playing the barking at a very loud setting and left it run for a long time.  That was not illegal at that time of day so the neighbor had no recourse other than keeping his dog inside where the dog didn’t bark.  Peace returned to the neighborhood.

Be fair, be square and obey the rules of the pack.

I love you guys!
My neighbor had a hunting who was in a big pen. He barked all the time. At that point I was working from home as a consultant. I bought one of those silent whistles. Drove the dog nuts!  After a week or so if me blowing the whistle whenever the dog barked, he just stopped the noise.
Case closed😱😱

Hmm! Interesting.
Only problem is the big mutt that barks is a few doors away :( and I wouldn't wanna drive my dog (who lives next door) nuts in the process. :P (He's a little Basenji, and doesn't even bark at all.)

Yeah.  I think I'd go another way if you have a dog nearby that you really care for. ;)

AJ, maybe they make noise cancelling dog headphones for little guys?  I can just imagine…

I have a neighbor who had a couple penned hunting dogs that barked constantly.
Fortunately they either died or ran away.

First, NO dog should be 'chained' up all day and night - 24/7! THAT is what is causing him to bark all day and night! He's getting no exercise or brain stimulation, so of course the only way he can express his pain, discomfort or misery is to bark - hoping someone will come to help. IF he's still out there on a chain at this time of year, it's time to call the authorities.

Fwiw, our older rescue dog Koda has a barking problem. We've no idea why he barks as he does - which is why I struggle to keep him inside as much as possible. He came with it - we got him when he was already 4years old. He seems to think anyone passing by the back fence (during school events) is 'trespassing' and he needs to run up to chase them away. Likewise with the fence at the other end of our property. A new family moved in there a year or so ago. They now own 4 HUGE German Shepherds who don't take kindly to this little yappy dog and their barks are 3 times as loud as Koda's. That's when Luka gets into it - I'm not sure if he's trying to defend Koda or simply enjoying this new 'game'.

I bought a couple of different versions of those 'heard only by dogs' whistles. They did nothing at all. Koda barks right through them. Luka cocked his head a couple times, then began barking AT the whistle. Most of the time he whines instead of barking. Unsure which is worse. At times I think Koda is having difficulty with hi vision and is using his barks as bats do - as an echo
locator. The sole 'out' for us is that the next-door shepherds are far noisier, and almost everyone on our street (also a cul-de-sac) has a dog,

Ah yes, the barking dog thing. Down the street a few housed is a BIG dog.
I think a mastiff type. That dog never barks until the moon is present and
then he walks to the middle of the yard, sits down & starts barking. He will
bark all night long.  But as long as there is no moon out he's totally quiet.
Doesn't bark at the ups or fed-x or anything else, just the moon. I don't understand
what his major malfunction is. He's friendly enough as long as he doesn't see
the moon.

I don't recall that our dogs, long since departed, barked excessively. We're down to one cat, (for noise, the turtle and the rats didn't count) and her meows can't be heard outside the house. The neighbors are ~100 yards away. We can still hear one neighbor's dog(s) at night or early morning when they're let out, but it's not 24/7.

I was all excited there for a while, but now I ain't too sure. Since he broke his chain, and took off somewhere, I hoped he had run away, but alas! I'm hearing some idiot mutt barking again. Sounds like a big German Shepherd, so I'm pretty sure it's him what's doin' it. :(
