- Retirement - 2.0 “The Next Step” Thinning down the rest of the way.
Supporters take note
Under my old “identity” ~I~ started over 13,000 subjects and posted a bazillion posts. After I “retired” in September of 22, and just became a member, I quit starting posts altogether, and as “Age,” participated in even fewer. As we all must admit, that’s when the “activity” dropped, and I soon realized that SlideMeister has always pretty much, been me. Wow! That was hard to swallow but not impossible. So there it is.
SlideMeister’s twenty-fifth birthday is here. Yep! Twenty-five years. Who knew? So what’s next? Well, for one, I’ll be closing down this old forum to all further posts some time after December 31, (or whenever I can get the “new forum” up and running on slidemeister.NET.) Yes, that's dot NET. (Next door) As long as I can afford It, I’ll keep this one running for “public consumption,” as a “reference only” site. Don’t worry, all the files, downloads and stuff that are in there now will remain available, but there will be no more new “posting activity” here at the old “forums.slidemeister.com.” Our current SlideMeister “Supporters” (but not regular members) will simply be relocated to the new, private forum located on slidemeister.NET (our lonely sister SlideMeister domain) This new site will basically replace this current “Insiders” board.
No worries. It’ll be just like this current forum, (with all the bells & whistles and stuff) but just a reduced membership. SlideMeister 2.0 forum will be every bit as functional as this old one, just smaller and simpler. Our weekly Zoom meetings will continue to be open to all supporting members.
The Classifieds
Only the Classifieds Board will remain active on the old forum. The Dealer’s Boards will be closed and and reduced to just “dealer links.” There will be no more general posting or discussion on the old forums.slidemeister.com website. I will continue to post any supporting members’ items for sale on the Classifieds board there, as well as on the new forum at slidemeister.net, AND on the main site located at www.slidemeister.com. As you can see, those two boards have already been moved to the very the top of the forum, so it’s now the first thing visitors will see. (and we still get a zillion visitors every day, so that’s still gunna be a good thing)
New private forum? What-choo-talking’ ‘bout Willis?
As soon as I set up the new forum, I’ll turn off this old one. Now that I think about it; it’ll be small, pretty much as I envisioned it 25 years ago when I built the place. While the general public will have access to the activity there, (can’t find a way to turn that part off) only SlideMeister supporters, AKA “inner circle” types who just wanna keep in touch, will be posting there, just like it is now, just smaller. (and less work for me)
Transition will be simple. Current, (paid up) supporting members (from Helpers to President’s Clubbers) will be notified by email when their accounts have been registered at the new forum, and the old forum will close for good ten days afterward. The new forum on SlideMeister.net will still accept new people, but only as supporting members.
I will be revamping slidemeister.com (the black site) in much the same way.
