Can anyone help? SCX reed problem
« on: February 05, 2015, 05:39:38 AM »
One of my SCXs has developed a problem on the 2 hole draw. If I draw on it gently it plays sweetly but when I draw normally I can still hear the "F" perfectly pitched but there is a deeper and just as loud harmonic drone as well.

I've gone over it with a magnifying glass and can't find anything amiss. :'(

The reed is hitting the windsaver. Take a needle and pry apart the two layers. If it keeps happening, moisten a piece of newsprint and slide it between the layers to clean. Failing that, replace the windsaver.

yes, that's probably it.  before you separate the two layers of the windsavers, look to see if there is any darkened area between them that disappears after you separate the layers.  that's the location of anything that's making them stick and what you would be cleaning away using tom's technique.  sometimes it's a bit of 'syrup' formed by the moisture in your breath combined with sugar from drinking soda or coffee, but it could be other things.

i have exactly this problem with my suzuki G48, same draw note.  after each fix, i'm able to play for a longer period of time before it happens again.
