3/25/22 "Summertime"

Every Chromatic player has to play Summertime (in A minor) once in a while. That's the law. While I won't say "A monkey can do it," it IS pretty easy to play . The trick, however, is not just to pay the right notes, but rather to make it sound good. Here's a Symphony and a guy with a trumpet

And here's a Karaoke (both in A minor)

I just tried it. and tried to make it wail a bit. I was able to get somewhat of a bend by sorta opening and closing my jaw and pinching the note. I get a waiver, but I suppose one has to be able to bend notes on a diabolic to get the full effect.

Thanks Age, that was fun to try.

It has been a while, but I think I used to slur some of the notes together, on chromatic, rather than just playing them, (must dig out the music & give it another burst).

Such a lovely tune...wasn't familiar with this one. I think I heard my son practice this on keyboard... maybe it was this one. Need to check... In that case notation should be available, though sounds simple enough to try this by ear.

I do get fascinated by these beautiful themes... I already have Autumn Leaves in Am on my list, then there's Lara's theme...
Cheers
Gatty :)

I used to play in Dm (most blues oriented players play this way).

Played it on stage last week. :-)

It definitely should be on the list for every harmonica player!

Hi everybody!

What a nice song and beautiful music to play along with.
I have played it for years but I suspect I still sound like a schoolboy trying to play.

There is something missing, but I don't know what? ;)
How do you play Summertime? :)
I would be very happy to hear you comments on that question.

All the best
