Pat Missin tuning
« on: September 09, 2023, 07:10:32 PM »
I went looking today for a harp with a tuning to enable me to play the melody to Summertime easily, and found it!
At first I was puzzled as to just what it was, I had marked it “Missin”.
Turns out, it is a tuning Pat had told me he was playing a lot, here’s what it is.
Built from a low F, it goes like this:
F A D F A C D F A C
g c e  g b d e  g b d

So it’s Melody Maker on the bottom and Power Chromatic on top.

Not only did you do a great job of Summertime, but you looked a lot like Jimmy Buffett while playing ;)
Timely, Gnarly.  Very timely!
“Just here to harp on chromatics!”

Thanks Doug, I’m gonna putting some more time into it.
The secret sauce in this formula is the raised draw 5. This permutation has the Paddy blow 3 from Melody Maker, but the “chain step” on 6 and 7, which I will forever associate with Brendan Power, gives a lot of chromaticity to the top end.
Just have to remember where the notes are!
