I have the same memory, but that information might be 10 years old.

Yeah, The last thing I got from Hohner was some Chrometta parts, back before Sissy retired.

Okay, I found the Hohner website for harmonicas, chromatic harmonicas.
I think their website in earlier years was much easier to use.

I want a slide for a Performance Super 64 (same as the slide for the Performance Super 64X)
I cannot find the slide in the CShop website. Can you find it?
If you can find it, can you tell me the SKU number for the slide? Can you send me a "link" to the webpage with this item?

Ed, see if this link opens for you.  The slide is gold in color and is priced at $46.

Try the following website for Hohner parts:

www.harmonicagallery.com

That's the website of SlideMeister George Miklas.
He's a Hohner endorsee. Ask him for the slide
part.

Another repair/maintenance professional is
SlideMeister Mike Easton ("Bloharp"). Search
for his website at SlideMeister "search" box.

I've had great service from both of these guys.

Best Regards, Stay Healthy

Ed probably figured out it won’t be the gold plated slide. That’s for the classic Super 64x and unfortunately won’t fit. George might have it or maybe HohnerUSA has it in their warehouse but for some reason didn’t list it yet. Mike Easton’s site is still down but he answers his emails. I have one Performance 64 slide in stock but it’s my extra slide. Sorry!

George Miklas wrote that I should look at the Hohner website. I think both Mike Easton and Gnarley also said to look at the Hohner website.

The Hohner website does list some parts, but the Hohner website has become one of those websites that are difficult to use. Hohner made the website look pretty, making it look as if you are turning pages. That prettiness should be replaced with an old fashioned drop-down menu system.

When you do find a webpage that shows some parts, the page does not allow enlarging (also called zooming in) the image of the part.
Slides for the older Super 64 and slides for the Performance Super 64 are VERY similar, but have slightly different locations of the hles for the spring and the buffer tube.

NOWHERE does the website identify a slide as a slide for the Performance Super 64 or the previous model of Super 64.
They do have a picture of a gold cololored slide, which must be for the previous version of the Super 64X.

How easily can you find a part number?

What do you think of my comments about Hohner's website. If you think my comments are poor, please tell me. If you think I am right, please send emails to Hohner and tell them what is wrong.

I dunno man! From the looks of the prices, it just makes me happy that I probably have more that enough old Chromatics and spare parts to last the rest of my life. If I ever did buy another axe, chances are it wouldn't gunna be a Horner. AFAIC, they're priced themselves outta business. (my business anyway) :P

The Hohner name is practically synonymous with harmonica.
Think they’ve got some wiggle room.

Definitely. Hohner will always have its "to the death" adherents, just like Harley Davidson did back in the seventies. They were making pure junk, everyone knew it, but the die-hard Harley fans were still buying those "Milwaukee Rattler / Iron Hogs" and making excuses for them when they rattled apart on the highways, while the common-sense buyers moved over to other brands till Harley finally got their heads outta their butts and started making better bikes.

Nowadays, when you tell someone you play the harmonica, they (in order to sound like they know somethin) will mention Hohner. This is only because of name recognition that has accumulated over the last 150 years or so. Yeah, they were (arguably ::)) the first, and most of the others are just knock-off and all that, BUT just to be a troublemaker, ;) I'd be willing to bet, that if ALL harmonicas were introduced like Last January, today, Hohner would just have a reputation as an average harmonica that just cost more than the rest. (still resting on their laurels AFAC)
Harrumph! ;D

What is your opinion about the Hohner website and the ease or difficulty of finding things in it, especially parts?

Wolfman:
How easy or difficult is it for YOU to find parts, individual harmonicas, and the part numbers in the Hohner website?

It is probably true that Hohner have 'rested on their laurels' as AJ says - when compared against other brands in terms of innovation and build quality. But what Hohner does have is Hohner reed tone. So if I ever got a harmonica, no matter how expensive, and it didn't have Hohner reeds I would probably feel I was missing out on something. Of course I might be wrong about this - maybe I need to try out some different brands.

I have a few Hohner models, a "vintage" Chrometta 12, a Super 64, a 260, a Discovery 48, a CBH 2016, and several CX 12s, both black, tenor, and Gold.

The only other brand I have is Suzuki, an SCX 56 and an SCX 64, with phosphor bronze reeds.

I think I could distinguish in a blind test between the CX 12s (projection), the Discovery 48 (anemic) and the CBH 2016 (brash). All Hohners, all brass reeds. But the difference between the Super 64 and the SCXes is minimal to nonexistent.

Where does the Hohner brass reed tone fit in?

Since I still have a bunch of them, I think it shows up mostly on the 270.

?? Fabled Famous Hohner Reed Tone? :
Anytime somebody set up side by side comparisons of various brands and models of chromatic harmonicas playing the same piece of music, I could never hear the difference. Our esteemed SmoJoe from Southern Florida wrote he could not hear any difference either.

I do NOT believe that Hohners have a fabulously, unique, glorious tone.

I do not know if the Hohner 270 was included in the side by side samples..

I do know from careful experience that the pre-2018 Hohner allows more tone color variations than the Hohner Meisterklasse allows. I sold my Meisterklasse when I discovered that.
I could get no tone color variations from a 14 hole Suzuki Sirius, the straight tuned version. I do not know if a zigzag Suzuki Sirius allows variations of tone color.
I could get no variations of tone color from an Easttop.

Lots of great choices right now for harmonicas.
