Repairman Joel Anderson does a review on his Patreon  site of one of these fresh out of the box. To cut a long story short he feels that with a bit of tweaking this is a very good axe. NY-based jazz player Yvonnick Prene, a long time 16-hole player, has indicated that this model may become his axe of choice.

Thanks! In significant ways, a harmonica is a harmonica. The sound (tone) is easy to distinguish from other wind instruments in the same range. The difference I hear is subtle; they both sound good, as you play them, George. IMO, the CX 12 tone has more depth. It's perhaps due to the cover design. While you vie to get them to sound alike, I sense that the CX 12 was easier to play. IMMO, of course.

Now, another request; and A-B of an Xpression and a Discovery 48, which may be the "underpinnings" of the Xpression. ;)

I might find a D48 here in my daughter's case. Stay tuned...

George, I like the Discovery but prefer the mouthpiece on my SCX and Easttop. Would the Xpression mouthpiece bolt onto my Discovery? If I knew for sure it would, then I would be very tempted to get the Xpression and use the Discovery for spare parts. Also, are you going to SPAH next month? I live 20 miles from St. Louis and go to SPAH when it's there.

Yeah, George, you're right, that mouthpiece is the bomb!  In fact, the whole thing is a pretty sharp lookin' axe! 8)

How are folk finding the Xpression plays? I saw one at the last HarmonicaUK Chromatic weekend and it looks very nice. I'd be interested to know how it compares with Suzuki SCX on sound projection?

Hi Laina, I have a few used Suzuki SCXs on my sales table. My opinion might be considered biased, but I have the opportunity to repair and play many different harmonicas. The Xpression is louder, more resonant, and better projecting than all other similar models, including the SCX. One aspect of Hohner's tone is the unique brass alloy. Hohner reeds contributed to Larry Adler's highly expressive sound!
