Independence Day
« on: July 04, 2024, 11:01:16 AM »
Want to wish all the US Sliders a wonderful celebration of the 248th birthday of the United States.

I just finished a "Neighborhood Independence Day Kickoff" in my front yard!  Sent a blast to the neighborhood yesterday.  We only have about 35 homes in the neighborhood.  About 25 or so showed up at 10AM.  I started off with playing the Star Spangled Banner.  Then we recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.  Then we sorta kicked around some thoughts about the importance of the day.  Then, I played the Ray Charles version of America The Beautiful.

Everyone was in a great mood!  It's supposed to get up to 100 degrees here today, but right now it's in the low 90's.  Everyone is heading to cookouts, pool parties, concerts, fireworks shows, and family get-togethers later today, but is was a great way to get the party started!  It MAY have been the "First Annual ..." ;)

The fireworks last night in our tiny little community, of less that a hundred houses, rivaled the ones in Chardon, Painesville and others. (as usual)  Go ahead - Google "Kiwanis Lake Ohio"

From what I hear, two neighborhood guys, routinely spend over $10K every July 4th for the past few years. Mama and I don't even hafta go down to the beach to see it, cuz we live up on a hill, probably sixty feet above "beach level" and can pretty much watch the whole show from our patio. Besides all that, a zillion lightening bugs in our yard add a nice touch. Two old farts Livin' the dream I guess. :)

The air is so thick and muggy here in Cleveland that when I throw something out of my upstairs window, it takes about 45 seconds to hit the ground! I think my yard rabbits are gunna drown.

when the humidity turned to rain my garage got about 3 inches of water. Took the sump over an hour to get it down to where I could walk out to the refrigerator without soaking my shoes
