Being born in "44," I remember the name (cuz it was funny) and something about a horn, but I guess he wasn't earth shaking enough around Cleveland back then the affect our "Hungarian/American" Richter scale.

 I remember,back in the olden days,we used to say,
   Ish Kabibble and Ish Kababble.
   No idea why.

I've known the name "forever," but never made the connection. IIRC, I associated the name (or term) with The Unknown, unnamed nonsense. Thanks for the Wikilink.

A lot of people associated (as Grizzley said) Ish as something akin to: 'Kilroy was here'. But if you're 82 or so you probably heard some of his quasi-nonsense tunes. Not a bad horn man, and played probably the first horn with the bell pointed UP into the air. Dizzy Gillespie played a trumpet like that. But much later. I think Ish had the horn customized like that.
