Dealer rating/review page
« on: April 19, 2014, 12:07:31 PM »
Had an idea for the main site:
A dealer rating/review page

We'll list all the dealers that we've dealt with over the years and figure a way to rate them (1 to five stars - whatever) also allow you guys to write anonymous reviews if you like.

First (to establish overall interest) send me the names (and location) of dealers with whom you have personal experience. If I don't get any, we won't do the page; simple as that.

Then we can get started on the rating system.

I successfully bought harmonicas and stuff (books etc.) at:
www.dragspeloteket.se Located in Sweden, mainly for accordeon and so. Had a wider range of harmonicas a few years ago. Still very good prices.
www.best2music.com. A broad music store and a good Suzuki dealer at harmonica department.
www.thomann.de/en. All kind of music. A lot of harmonicas.
And of course our own Danny G. Deliver harmonicas AND knowledge.

Rockin Ron's Music 4 Less is my supplier for life. Ron goes beyond being just a musical instrument dealer; he really gives his personal attention to every order. He even called me once to tell me that he carried an item I'd mentioned on a harmonica forum, it could have been this one.

He did me a real solid once and I'm forever in his debt for that. But that aside, he's just the best, a great guy who will treat you right. I couldn't recommend him more.

When it comes time for me to purchase a new harmonica, it'll come from Rockin Ron's, and that's all there is to it.

Hey, J, how do you really feel?  ;D
I too endorse Ron as the go to dealer for diatonics.
I do usually recommend Danny for chromatics, since he plays one, and his experience adds value to your purchase.
That's what I say anyway  :P

In Oz I would not hesitate to recommend Mandoharp an online retailer. Dane Clarke the owner of Mandoharp is a member here at SlideMeisters. Dane has an extensive range and very fair pricing plus fast  personal service.

I have dealt with Harmonicas Direct in the UK, for many years without a problem.
Peter Blyth is a top man:-

http://www.harmonicas-direct.com

Also I have bought  harmonicas from Brendan Power for a long time,
and he has been excellent too.
He knows his harmonicas!

Antony Dannecker is also a pleasure to deal with, and has some stunning small harmonicas.

The best manufacturers/dealers/distributors with whom I've personally done business.

This is in no particular order.

I prefer to deal face-to-face, with a person.

Rupert Oysler (5#####-Seydel);

Danny G. (5#####-New Harmonicas);

George Miklas (6#####-Hohner, independent);

Rupert, George and Danny G. are superior people.
I haven't bought anything from Danny G., but after meeting him,
I know that I'll buy future harmonicas from him.

(6######)six sharps rating only to those who gave me free harmonicas,
or had none of my order in stock, replacing it with a higher-priced model):

(5#####) five sharps to those who were superior in quick delivery and offered low prices.

F. & R. Farrell (5#####) now out of business. Up to 2005, the lowest priced major brand harps);

The former Coast to Coast Music (6######); now under new management, I won't go back;

Hohner USA (6######) (a free warranty replacement of a diabolic 6-pack with soft case, didn't ask me to return the 1st set);
                                                (donated about 80 free harps to the Milwaukee Harmonica Club, for inner city kids);

Seydel USA (6#####) (free harmonica samples plus a free dinner for 4 MHC members, from a former Seydel representative);
                                   (for great service [custom made harps], quick delivery, and low cost harmonicas);
                                   (donated several Seydel promotional items: free harps, other items, to MHC for drawings);

Lee Oskar (6######) (free promotional items for give-aways and raffles: harps, T-shirts, soft cases, etc, as fund raisers for the MHC);

Huang, Inc. (6######) (donated free harps, for fund-raisers for the MHC).

These are some of the great people and companies that I've dealt with in the harmonica industry, at one time or another.

There are also many individuals that have given free harmonicas, some very expensive, to me personally, but that's another topic.

I consider it a great honor and privilege to do business with these harmonica friends.

Best Regards

John Broecker

Still nothing carved in Granite.
However, I got a very nice Easttop 12 hole
from Danny G so I have 2 favorites now.
Was going to be thinking about a Seydel but
notice Danny is not carrying Seydel now so
I'm rethinking it again. I know RockinRon's has
them but for now Seydel is still on hold.
Flip a coin for RR's & DannyG..

I'm still selling Seydel harmonicas but after taking a beating on one that Seydel raised the price on without telling me about it, I'm just looking over my inventory to make sure all of my pricing is correct.
Thanks

PS
Thanks guys  (I think Ron's a great guy too.)

Well I apologize Danny.  I didn't see them on your web page so I thought
you were not carrying them any more. I sent an email asking about it but
never got a response to clear that up. I'll call next time rather than trust
the email thing.
Thanks for the Clarification.

I've been neglectful: bought a couple of other harmonicas from Danny in 2014 (at Spah); he got a CX-12 for me in a particular key I'd been searching for and just this Spah (San Antonio, 2016) he brought with him my brand-new brass-combed 16 hole Easttop. I played it until the last day then he took it back to have the gapping altered for my playing. Couple of small tweaks--but  was more than willing to give me a brand-new instrument, even though I'd played this one for a couple of days. Made sure I knew about his warranty.

Danny's a class act all the way!

FIVE stars *****

Used to buy all my Hohner/Hering chromatics from Doc at Harp Depot but since they're impossible to contact (won't respond to emails or phone calls), I can't take the risk anymore.

Rupert Oysler sold me my only Seydel Deluxe chromatic - a Bb--it's still as perfect as the day I got it for a really great price.  He's another class act. *****

I now buy my instruments only at Spah Conventions from people I know well.

Down under, Dane from MandoHarp is a 5 star seller. Very honest and helpful. I have bought a Suzuki SCX 56 from him and a few diabolics.
I got an East top from Danny G. Also a 5 star seller. No problem to ship it all the way over here.
I have to say in my limited dealing with them, the Seydel people were very helpful to deal with directly.

Another down-under vote for Dane's Mandoharp. Like Mick says, he's honest and very helpful with communications. If he hasn't had something in stock he was happy to order it for me, or to let me know when the next order came in. When I had a part break on a new-ish chromatic he immediately ordered a replacement, let me know when it came in, and sent it quick-smart. He plays music himself and communicates as a musician, not a salesman. I've spent more money with him for harmonicas - both chromatic and dire-tonic - than I want to think about.

So you can buy with confidence from Mandoharp. Five stars.

the Psardo group. I think most people here know by now that I bought the Goldbar in A ;) Mai Le handled the sale for me,
but I also talked to Phil directly over the phone a couple of times - as well as Mai via phone and emails, and sure enough
got my gorgeous instrument (with its case) in short order. Stunning - and beautiful. Mai was terrific and so helpful.

Danny G and Rockin' Ron's are my go-to's for regular chromatic when I'm not at a SPAH.

I've also bought Hal Leonard Book and CD play-alongs from a couple of on-line sellers. I'll look them up if anyone expresses
interest.
