So are the new invisible members members or do they remain applicants until they post an intro ?

Nah, we credit them 15 posts and that gives them a "member" designation, a modifiable profile, and "read-only" access to everything but the INSIDERS board and general posting privileges. If and when they decide to become supporting members, they get posting privileges and all the rest.  :) it's all laid out on the support page.

I'm still working on the goodies 8)

Just a suggestion:
When folks apply for new membership, maybe you could ask them for a bit of background information ... an intro if you will.  Then, you could paste that into the post where you announce them as a new member.  That way, we'd have more than a nickname to go by.
JMHO.

Nah! They'd need full posting privileges for that.
