I never tried using a PC for a Zoomer. Maybe I'll give that a shot just for giggles. ;D (after I get me a PC version of iReal, that is)

iReal Pro isn't as "straightforward" on a PC as on Apple stuff.  I have it on my iPhone, and I also have it on my PC.  There is no longer a Windows version of iReal, but you can run the Android version by first using what they refer to as an "Android emulator".  I downloaded onto my PC something called "Bluestacks X".  That is the "emulator".  Then I downloaded the Android version of iReal.  It's a bit of a pain to open iReal since first the emulator has to open, then iReal opens.  Once you get there, the functions are the same as ever, but it's a shame they did away with the Windows version.

Have I understood this properly: does iReal only give you chord sequences - meaning it's up to you to figure out the melody - or does it supply something like a lead sheet too for those that want to look at the notes as well?

Yeah, P.J., it gives you chords, but if you're a non-reader like myself, you don't even see the chords; you just "hear" them. I just watch them light up enough to see where the number ends. As far as the melody goes, I already know what that is, so I just play it. I can tell if what I'm playing is at least sorta right, cuz it fits in the chords I'm hearing.  In the cases where I don't know the chorus (or bridge or whatever) I just listen to the chords and make something up that fits into them. That's why, a lotta times I'll admit, I don't know the whole number, but play it anyway. :P  (since I don't know what chords look like on the screen :P)

Oh boy. That's a challenge. When I play songs - without backup of course - I'm usually faking or inventing quite a bit, at least when I play by ear, which is most of the time. Only occasionally do I refer to lead sheets. But coordinating my faking with merciless backup chords - that's an I-double-dare-you. You and Doug achieve high quality with iReal in conjunction with melodies played by ear. I may have to wait a while till I take that big step. On flute or mandoline I would take the dare with no hesitation.

Last Zoom of 2024!!!  I'll be there, but I have the same "crud" that Dave had two weeks ago.  Looking forward to seeing and hearing from the gang, and I may of MAY NOT be able to play myself.  In fact, listening to y'all will be my Christmas gift from SlideMeister!

Every once in a while we all have to pick our battles😂😂
With the senseless terrorist attack this morning in New Orleans, the football game between UGA and Notre Dame has been rescheduled to 4PM tomorrow.  I have two daughters and two sons-in-law who attended Georgia and two grandsons and one granddog (Dooley) who are ardent fans. The contingent of us in SC will be watching the game tomorrow.
I’ll miss the fun but …
GO DAWGS!!

I'm just an ear guy, :P who doesn't even know how it goes enough to hum it. Yeah, I recognize it when I hear it, but I actually hate it, (there aren't many Classical numbers that get my attention) so that keeps me from committing it to memory. :P Ain't it weird how ADHD and Chromatic harmonicas kinda ruin everything?  :-\

Probably won't make it tonight. My son and his girlfriend visiting from out of town. Have been practicing my party piece. A tough one with lots of blowing and drawing and button pushing. Hopefully will there next week. Will continue practicing my party piece. My son showed me iRealpro. Having all those chords only works if you know the melody the way iRealpro knows the melody. So far, the challenge seems daunting.

iRealPro is pretty cool. It's what I use on the Zoomers most of the time. Ever notice how I speed it up or slow it down during what I'm playing? Yeah the basic stuff is super easy. Editing chords and stuff, not so much if you're a "musical" idiot like me. Maybe I'll learn how to read music before I reach ninety. LOL!
