I still have the "64th Chromonica" that I bought with my shoeshine money when I was 10 or 11, and it still plays pretty well, but I also have a 280 that I bought in 1978. Below is almost the first number I ever played on it (also the first time I ever played that particular number, period.
). As raggedy as this old recording is, it showcases Paul Zarts playing
my chord, and Tony Heinz, playing
my bass. It was the only time I ever played as part of a traditional harumka trio, and I always wished I could play my "other" instruments half as well as those two guys did.
Aaaanyway, THAT particular axe, (the 280) I felt was waaaay superior to the old "Chromonica" I've had since the flood, and I still plan to restore the old girl. Right now, it's all in bits, in a box, with a new comb, screws and nuts, and new cover-plates. Whoopee! Gunna be great if I ever put her back together.
