I love the diatonic so the chromatic had to be even better.  Plus the challenge.  I am also a self confessed harp a holic.

I was frustrated with the diatonic's limits and heard someone play a chromatic at a jam session. Had to have 1 and have probably owned 20 over the years. Wonderful instrument and I never tire of amazing people at the ability to play so many types of music on it.

Because I couldn't play dance music like tangos, cha-cha, etc on the diatonic.

Played tremolo. Couldn't stand not having ALL the notes, so when I found out a Chromatic did, 'nuff said. I was around 7 or 8.

I had a total crash on a Hering Chromatic 64 Antique Gold when I was in store to buy a gigbag to my synth.

I wanted sharps and flats.  I play by ear, at 13, Peg of My Heart was the goal.

Hoping to find an instrument with all the notes to replace my singing voice ... (which has none of the notes).

LOVE this response. I always think of the chromatic as a 'voice'.

Cool.

Watched someone playing one on TV and remembered my navy days, had some diatonic and wanted the solo tuning again, Been playing solo tuning and chromatic ever since. About 10-11 years.

Pitch, Intonation, the ability (theoretically, if not personally) of playing real Jazz music. The 'suck-harp' wasn't getting me there.

More succinctly:
Toots - Bluesette - Killer Joe
Little Stevie Wonder - I Was Made To Love Her - Fingertips
Larry Adler - Rhapsody in Blue - Summertime

Portability, with all the notes, without the diatonic´s limits. And a romantic instrument, very romantic ...
